India's NavIC Navigation System Now Supported on Apple iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max

In a major achievement for India, Apple has announced that its recently launched iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max models will support India's indigenous alternative to GPS, NavIC (Navigation with Indian Constellation). This is the first time Apple has introduced NavIC support to any of its iPhone models.

NavIC is a regional navigation satellite system developed by the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO). It became operational in 2018 and provides accurate positioning and timing information over India and the surrounding regions. NavIC is designed with a constellation of 7 satellites and a network of ground stations.

The inclusion of NavIC support on the iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max models is a significant development, as it will make these devices more appealing to Indian consumers. It will also help to promote the adoption of NavIC in India and around the world.

In addition to its benefits for consumers, NavIC is also strategically important for India. It reduces India's dependence on foreign navigation satellite systems, such as GPS, and makes it more resilient to disruptions to these systems.

The Indian government has been pushing smartphone manufacturers to add NavIC support to their devices. In 2021, the government mandated that all new smartphones sold in India must support NavIC from January 2023.

Apple's decision to add NavIC support to the iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max models is a welcome development and a testament to India's growing importance in the global technology market.
